BookNook Tutoring – Ideas for At-Home Learning

Supporting Tutoring Continuity

The BookNook Learning team has compiled optional student resources that help extend the impact of tutoring, even when sessions or school schedules are disrupted.

Whether you’re a caregiver looking for ideas or an educator planning activities for at home learning, we have something to make an e-learning, remote learning, or virtual snow day engaging!

For each resource, we’ve also included a no prep, no print resource if access to a printer or device is limited.  Many activities can also be completed by drawing or writing on blank paper, talking through ideas with a family member, or completing activities orally.

The goal is learning, reflection, and connection.

Ideas for At Home Learning

Quick

(5-10 min)

  • Color the monster and give it a name
  • Give the monster a name and describe it to a family member
  • Draw your own monster on blank paper

 

Medium

(10–20 min)

  • Color or draw a monster and create a short story about it
  • Describe your monster’s appearance and personality using details
  • Read a story to your monster for x minutes
  • Create a math problem or challenge that includes your monster

 

Extended

(20–30+ min)

  • Write a full monster story or comic strip with a beginning, middle, and end
  • Tell your monster story out loud to a family member
  • Create a story from your monster’s point of view
  • Connect your story to something you’ve learned in tutoring

Ideas for At Home Learning

  • Choose a smartwatch to print and practice cutting skills
  • Design a smartwatch (print or draw)

Medium

(10–20 min)

  • Add reminders for reading, math, or focus time
  • Write one learning goal connected to tutoring and explain your goal to a family member
  • Write custom, encouraging messages on watch faces and distribute to family members

Extended

(20–30+ min)

  • Create a set of watches to wear for each week (tutoring reminder, motivational messages)
  • Reflect on how your goals help you during tutoring sessions
