How to Use this Resource

We recommended you use this set of session expectations resources to teach, reinforce, and support positive learning practices.

Each item can be used on its own or together as a complete system!

1. Session Expectations Slideshow

Use the slideshow to introduce each expectation at the start of the program or each week.
Click the three dots    in the bottom-left corner of the slide deck and select “Enter full screen” to share it with students.
Walk through one expectation per slide, allowing students to ask questions and share examples of what success looks like.
Make it interactive: ask students to describe how they will demonstrate each expectation during sessions.

2. Session Expectations Poster

Print and display the poster in your tutoring area on a BookNook Bulletin Board so students see it at the start of every session.
To create a large, poster-sized version using a regular printer, choose “Poster” or “Tile” in your printer settings to print across multiple pages. Trim and tape the pages together to create a display-sized version for your wall or bulletin board.
Have students sign the poster as a group pledge to follow the expectations.

3. Session Expectations Checklist

Print and distribute the checklist for students to use at the start of each session or before their first tutoring session.
Optional – Laminate the checklist and use dry erase markers so students can reuse it daily.
Pair with the Student Self-Reflection Sheet after sessions to help students reflect on how well they met expectations and set goals for next time.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

Send a copy of the checklist home so families can help students prepare for tutoring days. Reviewing expectations together builds shared routines and supports student readiness.
